How To Choose The Best Camping Tables

There's no doubt that camping is fun with food and games. And usually, you can create these memorable things atop a table. As I've said, you don't need to settle in the dirt anymore, especially in a front-country setting. You also have the choice to experience convenient, mess-free outdoor camping.

Camping tables are pretty essential for these leisure pursuits. But do you know how to choose one? What are the qualities that you need to check before buying one?

The guide below can help you find the best table for camping.

Intended Use

Similar to other outdoor equipment, camping tables are not designed to be the same. One way you can categorize them is by their intended use. Some tables are designed to be spacious and multi-functional to assist their users in preparing food.

Meanwhile, other tables offer a large tabletop so that a group can eat together around it. Interestingly, you can also find outdoor tables that have sinks on them. Such a provision allows quick clean-ups after a hearty meal. You can also find tables that combine all these functions together!

Material

The material used in the construction of a camping table plays a vital role in its overall performance. As much as possible, you would want the table to be durable, weather-resistant, and lightweight.

The following are some of the most commonly used materials in crafting these camping tables.

Wood

Wooden camping tables set an authentic outdoor atmosphere in your campsite. These tables are not only rugged but offer exceptional stability in various terrains. If the wood used is Acacia or Cedar, you can expect that the table's lifespan is long. Furthermore, sealed and treated wood has better durability than those wooden tables that didn't receive any treatment. Wood variants such as teak and eucalyptus are known for their oil retention. Hence, even if they are exposed to the elements, they can still showcase decent resistance. Keep in mind that wooden tables are heavy.

Metal

Tables that use steel and aluminum on their frames and tops are definitely rugged and long-lasting. Since they don't easily degrade against the elements, there's an assurance that they can withstand constant use and abuse. However, always remember that these materials aren't fully invincible to the effects of the weather. Hence, unique treatments such as powder coating are necessary to enhance their defense against water, moisture, and wind. Between steel and aluminum, the latter is lighter than the former. But when it comes to sturdiness, steel is the clear winner.

Plastic/PVC

Some camping tables use plastic on their entire construction (or some of their parts). They are known to be affordable and lightweight, making them the ideal choice for quick outdoor picnics and camping cookouts. They are easy to carry and store, too, since they are designed to have minimal bulk. They aren't recommended to be exposed to the elements (especially water and moisture) since they are prone to developing mildew.

Type

The type of the camping table may indicate the purpose that it serves. Of course, this would also determine its size and level of portability.

  • Bistro - A bistro-type camping table is suitable if you are just alone or in a small group. They can accommodate up to four chairs only. They are small, which makes them a reliable table for campsites where space is an issue. These tables may either come with adjustable or non-adjustable legs. They aren't suitable for food preparation or cooking purposes. Instead, they only serve as a platform where you can place or eat your food.
  • Dining - If you are in a large group, you may want to consider getting a dining-type camping table. They vary in size, but they can guarantee sufficient space for their users. Some dining camping tables can cater up to six people, while the bigger ones can really accommodate a large gathering. If you have a lot of meals to prepare, these dining tables are your best choice.
  • Folding - Folding camping tables are highly suitable for camping and backpacking adventures. Their biggest advantage is that you can fold and unfold them, which means that you can carry and set them up wherever you want. In short, they are compact and portable. The camping tables that I've featured here are all foldable, so picking any of them would not waste your time or money. It is also recommended that you get folding tables that feature adjustable leg height so that they accommodate various terrains.
  • Cooking station - This particular type of camping table is designed to help campers prepare food efficiently. They often arrive with a rectangular shape so that they can provide adequate space for your cooking water. Other cooking tables have small platforms attached to them for added space and storage.

In Summary

The best camping tables can give an extra level of convenience and fun to your outdoor trip. It is where you can eat food, share stories, and play games together with your family and friends. Hence, you shouldn't just downplay their importance, especially if you don't intend to go in the rigorous backcountry. As long as the situation and setting allow, you should bring these tables with you!
