How To Choose The Best 2-Person Cots?

As I've mentioned earlier, cots are designed for single-person use. They are similar to sleeping bags and pads in this particular aspect.

But just like sleeping bags and pads, these cots have been expanded so that they can accommodate more users. Of course, that gave birth to these two-person cots.

Well, the idea is pretty simple: extend the cot so that it can cater to two or more people. But in practice, it is not that easy to implement, considering that the frame and materials have to be modified to accommodate the extra weight and load.

Let me discuss some of the essential considerations that you need to take into account when selecting two-person cots.

Frame and Legs

One of the things that you need to mind is the construction of the base of the cot. Since the intention is to accommodate two or more people, the base should be durable and rugged.

You should prefer frames and legs made from steel. They are more structurally rigid than aluminum. Aluminum has decent durability, but it should be combined with other materials to strengthen its sturdiness. For durability, steel is the best choice. For weight management, it should be aluminum.

For two-person cots, the frame should have additional reinforcement. Braces and hinges are essential so that they can support heavier loads. At this point, legs that have X-shape assembly are considered to provide better weight distribution and management.

Cover

Any cover is acceptable. It just boils down to their construction. Most of the outdoor cots today are tailored from woven polyester and nylon. They are the preferred materials because of their known ruggedness and durability. They don't sag easily and offer resistance to structural damages such as natural wear-and-tear.

The strength and quality of cot fabric are determined by how it was constructed. Typically, the "toughness" of these fabrics is measured in denier. Denier is a measurement unit used to quantify the weight and the size of the fibers. The higher the denier, the thicker the fibers and the stronger the fabric. It can be used to measure both natural and synthetic fibers. Denier is part of the DAS system, which is used to measure the linear mass density of fibers.

A decent outdoor cot should have fabrics with at least 600 deniers. That's the industry's standard, and there's nothing if you are going to prefer for such a rating.

Weight Capacity

You have to be specific when it comes to the weight capacity of a camping cot, especially if you intend it to carry more than a single sleeper. Most of the cots today have a weight capacity of at least 200 pounds. It is more than enough to handle solo campers and hikers.

However, if there are two individuals who will sleep on these cots, it is obvious that their weight capacity is not enough. At the very least, the camping cot should have a weight capacity of at least 300 pounds for more extensive applications; the more weight the cot can carry, the better.

If you can find outdoor cots that can hold up to 400 to 600 pounds, that would be better. You can guarantee that the cots can handle full-size adults without any problems.

Spaciousness

The physical space of these camping cots should be ample enough to hold more than one person. I mean, it is quite useless to get a cot that is ultra-rugged but doesn't offer enough space. Check how the cot folds and assess if it fits two sleepers side by side. It should give you an idea of the said cot will serve your intended purpose or use.

Conclusion

The best 2-person cots are ideal for individuals who usually go in tandem when hiking or camping. They are perfect for couples or groups of friends who don't want to get separated while they are resting.

Just remember the considerations in choosing these specialty cots. These guidelines will help you find the most suitable option for you.
